07 Virtual - access details provided by instructors. Course Description: Parenting may be an art, but there is also a lot of science around what makes for "good parenting". In this four week session, we will cover some of the most important topics related to parenting with an eye to what it means to parent in the current moment. Week one will focus on the tensions between supporting autonomy and providing protection. In week two we will examine shifting ideas about discipline, setting expectations, and gentle parenting. In the third week, we will consider some of the particular issues related to parenting in the modern era: screens, social media, and monitoring. In the final week, we will explore how parent-child relationships change across development and have an opportunity to debate the definition of "good parenting." All weeks will be supported by readings that will guide our discussions. View the instructors' biography Expectations: Participants should expect to commit about two to three hours a week to the course, and should have access to a computer and reliable internet access for the duration of the course period. The instructors will contact registrants to provide specific details about how to access the course meetings and related materials. Articles and video links will be sent ahead, so it will be beneficial for participants to review those materials prior to the course meetings. Summer Deep Dive courses are offered free of charge and are non-credit. Space is limited; registration is requested by July 6. This limited-capacity program is very popular and thrives on live participant discussion.
